Up-and-Comers is a weekly series where I highlight impressive lifts from the last week, performed by lesser-known but talented and hard-working powerlifters who are on their way to making waves in the sport.
Whitney Baxley - 180 kg/397 lbs x 1
Totaling nearly 500 kg/1100 lbs at her last meet, Whitney stands as one of the top 5 strongest raw female 60 kg competitors of all time, with a DOTS/Wilks score in the 550’s. With this nearly 400 lb. squat to cap off her successful meet prep, we should all keep our eyes peeled to see her break the 500 total barrier in a little under 2 weeks at The Showdown.
David Pardy - 308 kg/677 lbs x 3
David is a force to be reckoned with in the 110 kg class. As a junior, he managed to total over 800 kg and is knocking on the door of a 500 DOTS. Having just recently turned 24, I’m sure we’ll see many more years of his rapid progression towards the top of his class in the open category, doing so in style with his classic strongman ‘stache.
Sergio Maglione - 250 kg/551 lbs x 1
At only 19 years old with a few years of meets under his belt, Sergio is just getting started. At around 90 kg, he’s managed to put up over 600 pounds on squat in a meet, but judging by the speed of this single, he’s set to smoke that number in no time. Look out for a big total from this junior lifter over the coming months and years.
